The traditional dessert of Mytilene for Halloween. The salty taste of the dry cottage cheese with the sweet taste of grape syrup makes the perfect combination of sweet and salty. We can dip into molasses (boiled), honey or syrup.
Ingredients for the filo (4 sheets):
½ kilo flour for all uses
½ teaspoon sugar
½ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
And water as much as needed.
Ingredients for the mixture:
1 dry mizithra cheese
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons sugar
How to prepare
Divide the dough into 4 balls with which we will open 4 sheets (fila).
Roll out the dough into a thin sheet and sprinkle a little flour to prevent sticking to the rolling pin.
Pour on our sheet a little bit of oil and then ¼ of the mixture all over the sheet evenly.
Pour a little oil over this mixture and wrap it carefully.
We cut our roll into pieces and place in a greased pan. Pour a little oil over the pieces.
Repeat all of the above steps for the other three pieces of our dough.
When we fill the pan with oiled pieces, we put them in preheated oven at 180 oC, for about 45 minutes or until they have a red color.
Pour on the pieces, molasses, honey or syrup.
