Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms managed to receive 8 international awards, with 8 participating olive oil samples, at the Berlin Global Olive Oil Awards 2020 that took place at Berlin, Germany, between May 9 and 12.
The Berlin GOOA 2020 had hundreds of participating samples from more than 15 olive oil producing countries such as Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Israel, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia, Turkey, Slovenia, Croatia etc.
This is a global olive oil tasting competition that was carried out for the first time this year, with very high taste and evaluation standards.
A very important characteristic of the competition is the process of evaluating the samples. As expected from any credible international competition – based on the International Olive Oil Council’s standards , the evaluation process is “blind tasting”, meaning that the judges have no prior knowledge of the samples they taste.
At the same time, in order to ensure that the Berlin Global Olive Oil Awards 2020 evaluation is transparent and unbiased, a new two-stage confirmation technique was applied. Each sample that was tasted and evaluated, is then re – evaluated at a random point of the competition by a different panel of judges, but is also repeated by the original one. Finally, the scores are submitted with secret numeric codes online, from where the final score of each sample is calculated.
The Berlin GOOA 2020 panel of judges, that tasted all the submitted olive oil samples, consists of expert food technologists and expert panel tasters, setting the standards for a reliable and innovative international olive oil competition.
