Government spokesperson Stelios Petsas outlined the Greek side’s targets from the meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and U.S. President Donald Trump in an interview with public broadcaster ERT on Tuesday, noting the U.S. change of stance in Greek-Turkish issues. Petsas spoke in favour of the purchase of F-35 fighter aircraft, provided that the necessary fiscal space exists, and reiterated Athens’ success in isolating Ankara. He also said that Mitsotakis’ meetings with political party leaders in Greece will probably take place on Friday. A vote on the new electoral legislation will be held by late January or early February, he added, and be immediately followed by the process to elect the President of the Hellenic Republic. Petsas underlined that the meeting with Trump is expected to deliver the following: firstly, Greece wants to prove at this meeting that it is a stable and reliable partner for the U.S. in the region. Secondly, Greece wants to show that after 10 years of crisis, it is stronger and ready to attract investments, including U.S. investments, finally putting the dark days behind it and looking confidently to the future.ert/ana-mpa
